Still catching up, but this time we have a few amusing anime from guys acting as a female and even a cosplay event in the process. We start off with No. 6 and the still progressing plot, to Mawaru Penguindrum where they still haven't been able to get the journal from Ringo. Then we get to the school festival with Mayo Chiki! and learning about Rin's mother in Usagi Drop. Finally we have the still action-packed adventure with Blood-C.
No. 6
When someone tells you not to go anywhere, don’t expect the worst. It usually ends up being embarrassing for them, or at least it was embarrassing for Rat. Ever since Shion showed an interest in Rat’s acting, Rat made sure that Shion would never want to go see him act. Too bad life doesn’t always go the way we want it. Shion had found out that more of the parasites were infecting and killing people, even though it wasn’t the time of year Rat and Shion expected them to kill people. For that reason, he had to go tell Rat, and to do that, he needed to go to the theater that Rat was acting in. That’s when he found out that Rat, as Eve then, played a female character.
Shion did end up telling Rat about the parasites hatching even now, but that was after Rat had passed out from hearing a song. The song was of the wind. The only two people that heard the song were Rat and Shion’s friend, Safu. Safu was looking at a picture of bees when the song began. She ended up seeing the dream that Rat did, and also heard him call out to Shion. The two had passed out. When Rat woke up, Shion was at his bedside, but when Safu woke up, she wondered who Rat was. That was also when she found out that she had to go home due to the death of her mother and she knew she had to talk to Shion.
I wonder if soon we’ll find out what caused the song to start, and why Safu and Rat were the only ones to hear it. I believe that Shion is a big part in the wind and the parasite problem.
Mawaru Penguindrum
A date with the daughter. Near the beginning of the 5th episode, we see Ringo having lunch with her father. The lunch doesn’t talk about much other than the fact that her father does not seem to see her as his precious treasure anymore, which is most likely the reason why she is trying to get together with the teacher. We also get to see the dessert with the penguin figure that Ringo has to have. The many penguin references they seem to show all the time.
There are also many clips of Kanba’s past as well as Sho and Himari’s past. When Himari was sick, there was a bad storm that the ambulances were not able to go out in. So, their dad takes Himari and ventures out into the storm to bring her to the hospital. Kanba wants to help, so he followed them as well. His father ended up getting injured, but they do end up making it to the hospital in one piece. This all ties in to the present and why their parents are not living at home. It has not been said yet what the reason exactly is, but the three want to continue living in their house. Kanba even gets money from what looks like an organization that deals with the penguins.
With needing to gather money for rent, Kanba doesn’t get a break. Ringo throws Himari’s life source, and hat out of the house which causes it to attach to a truck. What luck. So Sho at first chases after it, but when he runs out of energy, Kanba takes over. He manages to get it back, but not before stumbling and holding onto the truck, or the hat, with all the energy he has. They still haven’t gotten the Penguindrum, but I feel that it’s only a matter of a few episodes or so.
Mayo Chiki!
The school festival is in its planning stage. Of course, Kinjirou has no say in what will be happening since he was knocked out earlier by someone from the Subaru-sama group. Well, he’ll definitely have “fun” with cosplaying, whether he’ll want to or not. Kinjirou even makes things more confusing when he attempts to get advice from Subaru, which doesn’t work, and ends up promising to take her to the festival for fun. This would have been great for the two of them if the girl from the Subura-sama group hadn’t gotten between them.
She actually confronts Kinjirou and demands that he go out with her until the festival is over. He, at first, declines because he doesn’t want to go out with her nor does he want to end up hurting Subaru’s feelings by going with someone else to the festival. He ends up agreeing when she shows him the picture of Subaru, in her female outfit, and him at the arcade where he got Subaru the stuffed animal. Subaru finds out about the two and that Kinjirou promised another person that he would go with her to the festival. He sure has a hard time dealing with Subaru and everyone else that wants to get in their way.
Usagi Drop
Rin’s mother is a manga-ka. With her personality, I never would have guessed that. After all, she seems to be a little ditzy and out of it, but she does have a more aggressive side when she deals with Daikichi. Daikichi and Masako hate each other, or at least they end up that way during the first meeting between the two. Daikichi wants to find out why Masako would give up Rin, and if she would want to take her back at all. She tells him the reason, which he doesn’t like at all, mainly because he would sacrifice his job in order to raise Rin. Masako also mentions that she doesn’t want to take Rin in, and instead tells Daikichi that she should have Rin take his name, his last name. He only promises that he will see if Rin wants to have her name changed.
Rin would rather keep the last name she has always had even though both Masako and Daikichi’s mother both agreed that a female would not mind changing her name since she will end up changing it in the future. Rin doesn’t agree with that. She likes her name and doesn’t see why she should change it when she already has one. I can’t blame her for wanting to keep her name. I’d probably be the same way if I was in her position. Daikichi respects her decision and lets her keep it. The topic closes at that and the episode ends on a happy note with Rin sitting on Daikichi’s lap.
Blood-C
Let’s tell some scary stories! Saya’s class decides on this when one of their classes is changed to a study period. None of them want to study, but they don’t all want to listen to ghost stories at the beginning. The teacher decides to okay it. She doesn’t see any harm, and actually enjoys idea. The class president is the first to tell his scary story which no one really enjoys because they have all heard it. The twins complain about how they need a different story that none of them have heard, and maybe even one that is would have happened near them. The teacher steps in. She tells a story that relates to the Elder Bairns that is about their town. During the story, Saya’s head starts to hurt and she passes out. This isn’t the first time, and it’ll probably happen again.
The next moment, she is home and in her priestess outfit. One of the twins comes to visit her to apologize and make sure she is alright. She feels that she shouldn’t have asked for that type of story and was afraid that it was the story that made Saya pass out. Saya denies that, and a minute or two later a monster appears. Saya will have to fight an even harder enemy while trying to protect her friend.
