A guy, who knows nothing about taking care of children, takes in a child after his grandfather dies. The anime, Usagi Drop, is all about Daikichi and how he learns how to take care of Rin. The first episode is about the relatives finding out about Rin when they attend Daikichi’s grandfather’s funeral. Rin is seen as a shy kid with long blonde hair who runs away as soon as someone sees her. The tall, brown-haired Daikichi is quiet as well. Not much is explained about him at the beginning. He is the only one who doesn’t seem to mind who the parents of Rin are, and seems to be the only one who cares about her well-being.
The show seems like a nice slice of life anime. I have read some of the manga and have enjoyed it very much. So, I have been looking forward to this show as well. The first episode was pretty slow and not much happened, but it was able to show the story of how Rin comes to live with Daikichi. The interactions between the two were very amusing to watch and I actually laughed at a few of them. It also made me feel sorry for Rin because Daikichi seems to be the only one thinking about Rin while everyone else sees her as a disgrace. The art was also like the manga a lot, and I actually like it a lot. Daikichi might not look very handsome or anything, but I think it adds to his character. He doesn’t seem like someone who can take care of a kid with his looks, but he decides to try anyway.
The only part of the show that I don’t care for is the opening and ending animation. It looks like a kid might have imagined it and then drawn it. It is very colorful as well which isn’t too bad, but it really adds to it looking like a kid had drawn it. Other than that, I’m really looking forward to how Daikichi’s and Rin’s life will be. After all, Daikichi will be taking care of someone other than himself for the first time in his life.
