Romance is not allowed at school! Uta no Prince-sama episode 2 finally got more into the school life instead of introducing characters like in the first episode. The rules, or rather rule, are brought up in this episode. Forming of relationships is forbidden and will result in expulsion. This series is still not my favorite, but it did get better.
The anime finally got around to having some sort of activity happening. The teacher assigned pairs of idols and composers to write and compose a song. Luck would have it that the pair that we get to watch has no idea how to write lyrics or how to read music. That was a little too cliché and annoying for me. Haruka, the composer who didn’t know how to read music was able to quickly learn how to read music in one day and was given a vision from the past that gave her an idea for the melody. I don’t know if I should think that’s amazing she was able to learn it in one day or if they just didn’t want to drag it out more. The idol she was working with, Otoya Ittoki, is the red-head guy she met on the first day, and he just happens to not know how to write lyrics for a song. It’s more understandable, but with the two not knowing how to do any of it is a little sad.
The interaction between the characters this episode was more fun to watch. I enjoyed seeing how Otoya and Haruka were relating to each other when they both found out that the other had no idea how to do what they were in charge of for the group project. I also enjoyed watching the teachers announce to the students the rules. Their faces when they said that relationships would not be tolerated were very fierce and serious, and I couldn’t help laughing at it. Not only that, but it was funny when Otoya went around asking all the other guys how they came up with lyrics, and he couldn’t usually understand what they meant.
The only part I didn’t really care for was the speed of everything going by. After all, Haruka had learned how to read music in one day and you didn’t really get to see what was going on with the other characters. They may be trying to do what Starry Sky had done and letting every guy have time with Haruka. If they decide to go that way, I can’t see the series going over too well, but I’m still waiting to see how this series is going to end up for Haruka.
